The workings of the Council of Europe will reach their height in Athens tomorrow, as the 130th Session of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member states of the Organization will take place in the Greek capital within the framework of the Greek Chairmanship, whose agenda mainly revolved around the pandemic and human rights.
The Session of the Committee of Ministers will be first addressed by the Greek Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The workings will be opened at 09:00 CET with a speech by the Greek Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the Committee of Ministers, Mr. Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, which will be broadcast live on the official website of the Greek Presidency https://coegreekchairmanship2020.gov.gr/social-media/ and the official social media channels
The Session of the Committee of Ministers in Athens will also be attended in person by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejcinovic Buric, the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Mr. Robert Spano, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Mr. Rik Daems and the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms Dunja Mijatovic.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 47 member states of the Council of Europe will participate via teleconference.
Within the framework of the Session, a Declaration is expected to be issued in defense of Democracy, the Rule of Law and Human Rights in times of pandemic. The establishment of an Observatory for the study and teaching of History will also be announced.

On the same day, at 17:00, a celebratory event will be held within the context of the Greek Chairmanship in the Greek Parliament (Senate Hall) to mark the 70th anniversary of the signing of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), with keynote speaker HE the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
