The Greek Chairmanship of the Council of Europe continues its round of online discussions entitled “In discussion with…” hosting Professor of Social and Natural Sciences at Yale University, Nicholas A. Christakis. The discussion will be broadcast today, November 16 at 18.00. The discussion is opened by the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, as Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The discussion will be coordinated by the diplomatic editor of SKAI TV, George Evgenidis.
Greek-American sociologist and physician Nicholas Christakis is the head of the Human Nature Lab, known for his research in the fields of social networks and biosocial science. Christakis was elected a Fellow at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 2006 and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2017. He has also been included in Time’s 100 Most Important People in the World list and Foreign Policy’s list of World’s Top Thinkers.
These online discussions are part of alternative digital actions organized by the Greek Chairmanship and aim to offer an institutional forum of dialogue, open to the general public, with eminent personalities of world stature from Greece and abroad. The purpose of the meetings is to bring the institution of the Council of Europe closer to civil society. The central theme of the Greek Chairmanship is: “Protection of human life and public health in the context of a pandemic – Effectively responding to a sanitary crisis in full respect for human rights and the principles of democracy and the rule of law“.
